Here at greengrub Toys we create wooden toys to bring nature closer to you.

But remember apart from playing inside kids also love exploring nature outside, no matter what the season.

Winter time can be just as much fun as summer! Our 2 year old is often mesmerised at what goes on in nature and the changing season…….just in our backyard.

Try some of these fun ideas to get the kid’s out of the house and active over the winter months:

  • Kids can explore forests and nature reserves where they can collect sticks, colourful leaves and pebbles. It is a good idea to take an eco bag or sand bucket along.
  • On a rainy day don’t be afraid of going outside and playing in the puddles. Kids can wear their favourite gumboots and raincoats.
  • On a sunny day visit the beach, your local river or creek. It may be a bit too cold for swimming but you can still enjoy walking, building sand castles, collecting shells and playing some ball games.
  • On windy days you can fly a kite, either home crafted or bought, in a park or on the beach. There are less crowds in winter and plenty of space to play around.
  • Visit the beach, playground or park and explain the differences in the seasons. Show the big wild waves or different coloured leaves and textures in winter compared to summer.

Get outside with the kids and experience the fun Aussie winter.
