Traditional Easter in Australia - Fun Easter Activities with Kids over the Easter Holidays

Like many families we use Easter to down tools and take an extended break, get away from the everyday chores and enjoy the last of the warmer weather before winter sets in, although Queensland winters aren't that cold :)

We were wondering what you guys get up to? Do you kick back and take it easy at the Beach? Hit the road for an Easter camping holiday? Or just hang out at home with an Easter egg hunt for the kids? Send Us an email and let Us know what your favourite Easter Kids activities are.

Here's some of our favourite things to enjoy with the kids over the Easter school holidays.

1. Easter Holidays: Camping or Beach Holiday?

We usually head bush for some Aussie family camping for Easter holidays. Although we love the Australian beach we have spent heaps of summer weekends hitting the waves so It's nice to get the tent, sleeping bags, billy, cricket bat and ball, wooden puzzles (check some out HERE) and of course torches, can't forget these for spotlighting at night.

2. Easter Treats: Easter Eggs or Hot Cross Buns?

Well, we cant decide, their both so yummy so we have both! We try to buy better quality chocolate Easter eggs (and Bilbies - see below mascot) with more cocoa and less sugar. We find the kids eat less Easter eggs if they are made from cocoa butter based chocolate rather than high sugar. The added benefit is the kids don't get the crazy "sugar rush" afterwards, which is great Easter news for parents :)

Easter buns are our equal favourite, in fact greengrub's Wooden Toys head honcho Greg wishes these Easter treats were available in the shops all year round. One way he gets around the lack of supply is getting the kids into the kitchen and baking his own, when of course he's not in the toy workshop making hand made Wooden Toys.

Why not try making some traditional Easter hot cross buns with the kids this Easter? Maggie Beer has a great recipe HERE

3. Easter Foods: Seafood Feast or Backyard BBQ?

Here's another one we cant really separate! The great Australian backyard BBQ goes down a treat over Easter and it wouldn't be an Easter Aussie Barby without great Australian seafood including delicious prawn Bamboo skewers (Bamboo; our Australian hand made Wooden Toys are made from this grass), remember the Paul Hogan Ad campaign of "Throw another Shrimp on the Barby".

4. Easter Mascot: Easter Bunny or Easter Bilby?

Fast replacing the Easter bunny here in Australia is the Bilby. The Bilby is our very own native Easter animal mascot. Bilbies formally occupied over 70% of mainland Australia however this area has now reduced by 80%. This Easter why not help save the native Australian Bilby by donating to the Save the Bilby Fund? You can learn more about this fantastic organisation and donate by clicking HERE.

5. Visiting Family and Friends: What's your preference; visit family or friends over the Easter break?

At Easter we're usually with friends with kids of similar ages. The kids have a great time together and it gives us the chance to road test some of our new range of Educational Wooden Toys and Jigsaw Puzzles before we launch them on our Online Toy and Puzzle Shop. The kids have great fun challenging each other to complete the jigsaw puzzles in the fastest time or building the most artistic and colourful creations with Building and Construction Blocks

As you've probably guessed; here at greengrub Wooden Toys we spend a lot of time in our little Wooden Toy Workshop in Brisbane making lot's of our own artisan made "greengrub" brand of wooden toys from sustainable Bamboo, eco friendly materials and of course hand made by Us. Bamboo Wooden Toys for kids......that's only part of the greengrub Wooden Toys and Puzzles story. We also sell other leading brands from global manufactuers of Educational Wooden Toys, Puzzles and plastic free entertaining Toys for Kids so when we're not busy making hand crafted Wooden Toys we're kept busy shipping out Kids Toy orders to lucky little people all over Australia.

These other brands such as Djeco, EverEarth, Le Toy Van, New Classic Toys and more have been hand picked by Us for their commitment to child safety sustainable and eco- friendly manufacturing to make high quality, great value Educational Wooden Toys and Puzzles for Kids. So even though we're kept busy most of the year sharing fun, educational and entertaining Wooden Toy's and Puzzles for kids all over Australia we always make time for family fun and Easter gives us the opportunity to have an extra long break.

Whatever you and your family get up to over the Easter Holidays stay safe, spend quality time together and enjoy all those once a year treats.
