Happy New Year 2018 - from the Great Barrier Reef Australia

Sharing NYE celebrations close to the largest living thing on Earth is special!

Recently our family spent a relaxing and enjoyable break from our family business (greengrub Wooden Toys), and the fun of toy making to visit Cairns in Far North Queensland. Adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef; Cairns is one of the beautiful locations along the 2,300 kilometre GBR which is actually a collection of 2,900 different reefs and the largest living thing on earth.

We regularly visit the Australian Tropics and 2018 was the year to spend Christmas and NY in this truly remarkable environment. Although we didn’t make it out onto the reef or rainforest this trip due to the recent arrival of a new bub we enjoyed the many other family friendly activities in the area. We visited the Botanic Gardens and newly opened Cairns Aquarium, cooled off at Muddies Playground water park and spent many hours in the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon. We also enjoyed the New Year Eve fireworks along the Esplanade with hundreds of other great families. It wasn't as elaborate as the Sydney fireworks but in our opinion more family friendly, enjoyable and relaxing. We loved it!

If you and your family have the opportunity, visiting this fantastic part of the world should definitely be on your bucket list. If you can’t make it in the near future why not grab the kids the next best thing, a fish character handmade wooden bookend.

Inspired by visits to the Great Barrier Reef our range of Australian Made wooden bookends include a fish character (check it out by clicking herewhich is a great reminder of this amazing natural wonder of the world.
